Our little Ruby Jean-Marie had her first birthday today! She is a gorgeous, sweet little cuddler, major mama's girl, super sassy, full of attitude...and we couldn't love her any more! We are having her party tomorrow and has her well check at the doctor on Wednesday next week so I'll update more later.
What a difference a year makes...

For this Tackle it Tuesday I am not attempting to tackle a house related situation, but the fact that my now 6 month old daughter will not take a bottle. Pretty much the only thing I can say about this is OOOPS!!!
Ruby took a bottle at four weeks old without a problem and has always taken a pacifier. During the past five months I have often said to myself or to Bret, "we should be giving her a bottle every couple days or so just so she knows how to drink from one." Well, despite my thoughts on that topic, I never actually followed through. We tried a couple weeks ago and to say that Ruby freaked out would be an understatement. She was absolutely furious. It didn't make her one bit of difference to find that the liquid in the bottle was the same thing she gets straight from the tap, she wanted no part of it. Bret tried. I tried. Ruby screamed hysterically. I have tried a few times since then with pretty much the same result. The only thing I can accomplish is her holding the bottle herself and chewing on it. She gets a few drops that way but will not actually drink. I don't believe in formula feeding, so it isn't like I have to get her to switch to a bottle because I am done nursing, I just would like to be able to at some point have the ability to go do something for more than a couple hours without a baby attached to me.
I know I can't really complain because I did it to myself by not giving her bottles of breastmilk long ago, but I would really like to try and remedy this. I welcome suggestions...

Ruby hit the six month mark yesterday! It would be an understatement to say that we are enjoying her and love her like crazy!
-She is rolling and doing a little inchworm type of thing to get across the room to what she wants, and she can get there very quickly. She is just about to figure out how to get her knees up under her and then we are really going to be in trouble.
-Two teeth popped through on the bottom at the beginning of the week and she is gnawing on anything she can get her hands on. I gave her an ice cube in a mesh feeder yesterday and she thought that was the coolest thing.
-We've gone to the pool a few times and she LOVES to go swimming. She does a funny little dolphin kick and splashes all over the place. It doesn't bother her a bit to get water in her face. We couldn't convince Jack that water was fun until he was around two, so this has been entertaining.
-I took her for her 6 month check up this morning and she did great. Developmentally she is doing everything she is expected to at this age and more. She is also growing like a weed! She weighs 16lbs 9.9oz (75th percentile), is 26.5" tall (75th percentile), and her head was 17"(also 75th percentile). She has already doubled her birth weight which cracks me up because Jack hadn't even quite done that by 12 months (granted, he weighed 2 lbs more than she did when he was born, but I still find it entertaining). Ruby has plenty of fat on her thighs to pinch and two very pretty chins. :)

Ruby had a rough 4 month "birthday". She loves her afternoon nap and we messed her schedule up by taking her for a car ride to Fort Collins and then to a birthday party. She was not pleased about it at all and spent the rest of the afternoon crying and being a grump.
I took her for her check up yesterday and she is doing great. She is doing everything she should be at four months plus some. She is growing great and weighed 14lbs 7oz (75th percentile) and was 25.5 inches tall (90th percentile). She has developed some pretty amazing chunky thighs lately and I love it!

She finally did it! Ruby rolled over today! She has been :::this::: close for days, and today she finally figured out that she needed to move her arm out of the way. When Bret got home from work I told him how close she was earlier in the day and put her down on her belly to see if she would do it. About five seconds later she flipped right over. I was so excited that we both got to see it! I tried to take a video of her tonight but she was too tired and wouldn't participate. Maybe I'll catch it on camera tomorrow.

Ruby turned 12 weeks old on Thursday and I thought I'd share some pictures and a little bit about what she is up to these days. She is a smiling machine and has definitely found her voice. She "talks" to us all the time and she has the sweetest little voice. She loves to lay on her back and kick but hates tummy time with a passion. I may never get her to lay there long enough to learn to roll over! She gets really close but then is screaming so much within just a minute or so that I end up picking her up. One thing that I am having a hard time getting used to (although I am enjoying it a great deal) is that she is a very good sleeper. She sleeps through the night most nights and if she happens to wake up I can go in and give her back her pacifier and she'll go back to sleep. For her afternoon nap I just swaddle her, giver her the pacifier, and put her in her crib and she goes to sleep without making a peep. Jack didn't nap well until he was nine months old and he didn't sleep through the night until he was 14 months old. A sleeping baby is not something I am accustomed to but I sure won't complain about it!

Our cat Ramona decided a few weeks ago that the baby swing was actually intended to be a cat swing. She spends the majority of her time there and gets quite irritated when she finds Ruby in her spot. Tonight I put Ruby in her carseat for a minute while we were eating dinner (since the swing was already occupied) and thought it would be a funny picture.

Ruby is two months old today! She had her check up this afternoon and is growing like a champ. She is now 23 1/4 inches tall (75th percentile), 11lbs 6.4 oz (70th percentile), and her head circumfrence was 15 5/8 inches (75th percentile). She showed the doctor how load she can scream while they examined her and then stopped and smiled at him the second he was done. She had to get some shots and handled those pretty well and only cried for a second. She has had a cold since yesterday and has been pretty grumpy because of it.
This has been her general attitude for the past couple days...
Her trusty pacifier seems to help her mood some of the time...
